As the summer of 2012 draws to a close, Labor Day is viewed as the last hurrah with some great
weekend quick getaways. Labor Day, which is always the first Monday in September, was first
celebrated in 1882 in New York City. President Grover Cleveland made it an official holiday in
honor of the labor groups. Nowadays, Labor Day is seen as the end of the summer and, of course,
the beginning of the NFL and College Football seasons. We have put together a few of our favorite
weekend getaway ideas, including some of the more popular destinations.
Be sure to see our
menu items on the left for other cool family vacations.

Top Labor Day Vacations for 2012
Caribbean Cruise!!
Labor Day is a great time to take a cruise. Cruises are still the most economical vacations available.
One price includes your cabin, food and lots of entertainment options. There are also some fantastic
new ships like Carnival's
Magic and Celebrity Cruise Lines Celebrity Silhouette and don't miss
Royal Caribbeans
Allure of the Seas. At 225,000 tons, the Allure of the Seas cost almost a Billion
Dollars. These new ships have amazing full size waterparks along with outdoor movies, shows, golf,
casinos and even bowling. Yes, I said bowling! If you are interested in finding the best cruise deals for
Labor Day, I recommend you take a look at our
Cruise Page. We have outlined all of the information
you need to choose, plan and book a cruise. We have also included our best travel tips and secrets
for saving money.
Charleston, SC
Charleston is one of our favorite cities. If not Texas, my family would live in South Carolina.
Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina. It was originally named Charles Towne after
King Charles II of England. From the downtown Historic District, to the Waterfront to
Fort
Sumter National Park
, Charleston has a great deal to offer everyone. One of my wife's
favorites is
Boone Hall Plantation, which is a 110-acre plantation and was the backdrop used
in the mini-series
North and South. Here is a link to the Charleston Visitors Bureau.

Washington DC
Where better to spend Labor Day than Washington DC? With all of the monuments, the US
Capitol
, the White House, and of course the Smithsonian , there is lots to do here.
Remember, all government buildings including all of the Smithsonian museums are completely
FREE. If you want a tour of the White House or access to the Senate and US Congress
galleries, you need to book these way in advance with the office of your Senator or member of
Congress. Here are links to help you -
US Senate and US Congress.

Walt Disney World - Orlando, FL
Disney World is a great place to spend Labor Day. It can be quite crowded, but with 5 theme
parks, 2 water parks, Downtown Disney and much more, there is something for everyone here.
You will find all Disney parks are very clean, well laid out with lots of places to take a break for a
meal. We have been many times and would go back again in a heartbeat - and our son is 14
now.

Las Vegas, NV
Las Vegas is a great place for adults to play and have fun any time of the year, including Labor
Day. The Las Vegas Strip is a 3.8 mile stretch of Las Vegas Blvd. with 19 of the world's 25
largest hotels. The current economy has hurt tourism in Vegas, but that means you can find
some excellent weekend package deals. With themed hotels including Treasure Island to
Excalibur, this is also a family-friendly town. Here is a link to the
Visit Las Vegas site.

Los Angeles, CA
Los Angeles is always a top weekend getaway with sites like Hollywood, Disneyland and of
course the orginal Universal Studios. If you're looking to catch a glimpse of a movie or TV
celebrity then there is no better place to go than Los Angeles. If you would like to be an
audience member for your favorite show, try
TVTickets.com for free tickets. Here is a link to
Disneyland and also a link to Universal Studios Hollywood.
San Antonio, TX
Being from Texas, we are bit biased, but San Antonio is one of those top getaway cities.
Located in southern Texas, San Antonio has so much to offer, with the River Walk, the Alamo,
SeaWorld and some of the best Mexican food anywhere (oh yeah!). If you haven't been to San
Antonio, then you don't know what you have been missing. The airport is serviced by all major
airlines and is a quick flight from almost anywhere in the US. We are so confident you will love a
visit to San Antonio that we encourage you to email us directly on our
contact us page for more
information. Here is a link to the
San Antonio Visitors Bureau.

Boston, MA
Boston is one of our favorite city getaways. If you or your family are into history and some
wonderful seafood, then you must head to Boston for Labor Day. Boston has some excellent
museums like the
Museum of Science which has 500 hands-on exhibits and the Boston's
Children's Museum
. You can also take the Freedom Trail or visit Faneuil Hall which both offer
a view of Boston's history. As for seafood, don't forget the clam chowder... it's to die for.

New York City, NY
New York City is the most visited American tourist city. With shopping, museums, Times Square,
Broadway shows, the Empire State Building, and of course, the Statue of Liberty, there is more
to do in New York than almost any other city. Here is a link to
NYC.com an excellent site listing
attractions, hotels, restaurants and show tickets.

New Orleans, LA
New Orleans is one of the biggest party cities in the country. If you are looking for a party on
Labor Day and you like Cajun food, then head to New Orleans. By the way, New Orleans has had
no impact from the Gulf Oil Spill so don't let that change any of your plans. New Orleans is just as
vibrant as ever before. Here is a link to the
New Orleans Visitors Bureau.
